hyperioncantlogin wroteColonRegarding the coal mine, In one of the upper floors there was a rather bare room with a single window ,and in that room was one single exhibit,a model of a working coal mine. The model was about 8foot high by 5 foot wide and was a through section of a mine showing miners going about there work above and below ground, descending the shaft in cages ,pulling tubs of coal along the roadway ect. I wonder if they still have this exhibit at Yeadon.

Yep that's the one I can remember.
Is this the end of the story ...
or the beginning of a legend?

The museum was replaced by the Midland Bank building (Now the HSBC). That building goes down two or three floors below ground I think, with vaults and plant rooms. I was taken down the 'mine' by my school, I seem to remember the walls of the 'mine' being made from something like plaster or fibreglass.

A vague memory I have is of there being a stuffed tiger there, which was moved to the museum near the Town Hall. I remember it for the fact that I am an hopeless artist, but managed to make a decent drawing of the tiger.
